Sodium polyacrylate is an anionic polyelectrolyte with negatively charged carboxylic groups in the main chain. Sodium polyacrylate is a chemical polymer made up of chains of acrylate compounds. It contains sodium, which gives it the ability to absorb large amounts of water. Sodium polyacrylate is also classified as an anionic polyelectrolyte.

The measure of this solidi cation in the U.S. isestablished by the environmental protection agency and is determined by a simple procedure called the "paint filter test". Basically,if no liquid drips out of a paint filter over a 5 minute test period,the material is de fined as a solid. Secco polymer sludge absortbent is used to stable and solidify hazardous fluids.
